Livingston Island

Livingston Island, covering some 376.1 sq miles, is usually approached en route to the Antarctic Peninsula, and is found in the South Shetland Islands in Antarctica. The South Shetland Islands are a haven for wildlife and at Livingston Island cruise passengers are able to walk amongst vast penguin rookeries of Macaroni, Chinstrap and Gentoo penguins, as well as the aptly named Elephant seal, which has a trunk-like snout.

At barely 11 miles southwest of Livingston Island, you'll likely visit the horseshoe-shaped Deception Island, a volcano whose caldera forms the sheltered harbour of Port Foster, where it is possible to swim in the partly warmed waters.
