What was your most memorable moment?

There is no one memorable moment. The entire Polar Latitudes Cruise was phenomenal. The excursion crew was excellent as was all the service. The shore excursions were all breathtaking. Stepping onto the Antarctic continent was a moment never to be forgotten.

Tell us about Zodiac excursions

Phenomenal and Amazing are the words that keep coming to mind. If the swells were to high we would try to go to another cove. We never felt in jeopardy or that it was unsafe. One time we just did a Zodiac Cruise because there were too many pernquins and seals on land and although it is always an exceptional moment to spend with the animals I and others appreciated the respect shown for the wildlife and that they came firs as it should be. The crew who worked for the ship and helped us in and out of the Zodiacs from the ship were great. Always had a good hold of us, and every day full of laughter and jokes. I wish I had known them better they were great!

Tell us about the expedition team

As I have previously mentioned the team was brillant. I do not know where you find a person who is a specialist on clouds, trained by the coast guard, drives a mean zodiac, and has so much information about the animals and land of this part of the country . This was Michael (who with Jeff are quite the comedians). I mention him as there is not enough space to list the many varied qualifications of all of the team. Lisa a great Photographer, zodiac driver, and again knowledgeable about the region, I could go on and on. The Lectures were all very good and I do not really have a favorite . They were a great benefit to better understand and appreciate our expereince. There was enough variation that there was something for everyone and I found myself going to talks that I probably would have skipped if not so pleased with everything.

Tell us about the Island Sky

Perfect size ship. The captain was funny and personable. I mentioned that we were on the 5th floor and the room was lovely. Comfortable seating, room to move around, very clean and lots of storage. The Bar area was lovely as was the lounge. Always seating for everyone. Having an outside eating area I thought was comical at first-this was an antarctic cruise-but we ate breakfast up there whenever possible and sometimes lunch and dinner. It was loved by many. Would definately tell people about how great the ship was and would go again .

Do you have any tips or advice for other people planning a trip to Antarctica?

The Zodiac cruises get cold if you do not go on shore so dress especially warm on those days. No need to overpack as this is very very casual. As always lots of layers and a light puffer jacket to put under the one they give you. The only issue if you can call it that was that they "give" you very little internet service before you need to pay for more and that was not disclosed with many feeling a bit disgruntled. The time between the Falklands and South Georgia are basically dead zones and the only two computers on the ship were used by all. For many we needed verification from our cell phones to access information which of cours was unavailable. This really was not a big deal but I think a fuller disclosure by the agencies involved would help prevent any ill feelings. If people have the time the Falklands and South Georgia are well worth the visit.
